General Questions

How do I attend lessons with Grow English?

Easy!  After you pay the $10.00 tuition fee, just go to the "Getting Started" page, click on the "Beginner Lessons" link or the "Intermediate Lessons" link, and begin studying!  Each level has about 10 lessons.  For each lesson, first you watch a video that teaches you about English grammar or vocabulary.  You can watch each video as many times as you want - even better than studying in class with a teacher!  You can review as often as you need to.  After you finish each video, you can practice what you learned.  There are many practice exercises for each video, which allow you to practice grammar, writing, listening, and vocabulary. You can ask the computer to check your answers, and it will!  You can find out right away if your answers are right or wrong. And if you still have questions or don't understand something, write to Joan and she will answer your questions.  It's a great way to learn.  You have the independence of learning at home anytime you want, and you still have the help of a teacher when you need it.

How do I get a Grow English account?

Go to the signup page to create a username & password, and enter your name and email address. You must agree to the terms and conditions, then click the Create User button.

You must pay the $10 fee before your Grow English account can access the beginner and intermediate lesson areas.

How many people can share an account?

One, two, three or 100!  At Grow English, we want to help as many people as possible, so feel free to share your account with friends and family.  Just be aware that only one person can use the web site at a time.

How much do private online lessons cost?

Private 1:1 lessons cost $30.00 an hour. However, most people want 30-minute lessons, so it costs $15.00 for one lesson.  You can save money if you buy 5 hours (10 lessons) for $130.00 ($13.00 a lesson).  Private lessons take place in an online classroom.  The online classroom has a white board that the student and teacher can use, it has video of both the student and the teacher, and it has lesson material that the teacher and student can share.  Students need to download the software for this classroom (free software) onto their computer.  Students also need a fast computer, a high-speed Internet connection, and a webcam.  It's also a very good idea to have a headset with a microphone.

What will I learn at Grow English?

At Grow English, we provide new lessons for you every month and, because you study it for a month, you get a lot of practice and learn the material very well.  This is very good for learning grammar and using it correctly, and it's also very good for vocabulary because you need to see and hear and use a new word at least 50 times in order to remember it. You study the same topic for a month, so you will hear the vocabulary many times in the video lessons, and also use the vocabulary in the writing exercises and hear the vocabulary in the listening exercises.  You can use the vocabulary when you post messages on the Discussion Board and talk to other Grow English students.  Grow English has an integrated curriculum, which means that the grammar and the vocabulary and the listening, reading and writing exercises, all work together in a very natural way and reinforce each other, and you learn English the way that American people speak it.
